Modern kitchens. Restraint, not coldness.
Slab doors, frameless construction, and long uninterrupted lines, kept warm by the materials.
Modern goes wrong when it mistakes emptiness for calm. The rooms that hold up are disciplined about line and generous about material: flat doors in real wood grain, stone with movement, and storage designed so the surfaces can stay clear. Restraint is a decision made once, in the drawing, and then kept.
