Kitchen Countertops

Kitchen countertops, chosen from the slab.

Quartz, granite, and natural stone for Chesapeake and Hampton Roads kitchens. Templated to the cabinetry actually built, and detailed so the seams fall where they read least.

What we fabricate

The surface does the daily work

Countertops are the most used surface in the house. The choice is less about which stone is best and more about how you actually live in the room.

Quartz

Engineered, consistent in pattern, non-porous, and it never needs sealing. The surface for a kitchen that is used hard and wants to look the same in ten years as it does on the first day.

Granite and natural stone

Every slab is different, which is the point. Natural stone is chosen from the slab rather than from a sample, because the piece you see is the piece you get.

Seams by design

Where a run turns, where the sink lands, and how pattern is matched across a join. Seam placement is decided at templating rather than left to the fabricator's convenience.

Thickness and edge

A thin profile reads modern and light. A thicker one reads substantial. The edge follows the same logic, and a simple eased edge suits most rooms better than an ornate one.

Honest about marble

The most beautiful, the least forgiving

Marble etches with lemon and wine, and it will patina. Some clients love how it ages and choose it knowingly. We would rather you decide that at the slab yard than discover it in year two.

Chosen with the cabinetry, not after it

Stone is templated once the cabinets are set, but it is decided long before that, alongside the cabinetry it sits on. See the whole kitchen remodeling process.

The lookbook

Surfaces, in the rooms they belong to.

Stone is chosen from a slab and lived with as a room. These show the material at the scale you will actually see it, against cabinetry and light.

Good to know

Countertops, answered

Quartz or granite?
Quartz is engineered, consistent in pattern, non-porous, and needs no sealing. Granite is natural, so every slab differs and some stones want periodic sealing. Neither is better in the abstract. Quartz suits people who want predictability, granite suits people who want the stone to be the thing they look at.
What about marble?
Marble is the most beautiful and the least forgiving. It etches with lemon and wine and it will patina. In a kitchen that is used hard, that is a decision to make deliberately rather than discover. Some clients love the way it ages, and we will make sure you know what you are choosing.
How much do seams show?
Less than most people fear, and more than nobody. Seam placement is a design decision made at templating: where the run turns, where the sink sits, and how the pattern is matched across the join. On a long island a seam is sometimes unavoidable, so it is placed where it reads least.
What thickness and edge should I choose?
Thickness changes the whole character of a surface. A thin profile reads modern and light, a thicker one reads substantial. Edges follow the same logic, and a simple eased edge suits most rooms better than an ornate one.
When are countertops measured and installed?
After the cabinetry is set, because the template has to follow what is actually built rather than what was drawn. That gap between installation days is normal and it is planned into the schedule.
Do you replace countertops on their own?
Yes, when the cabinetry underneath is sound and well laid out. New stone on tired boxes rarely satisfies for long, so we will look at the whole room and tell you honestly which one you are solving.
