Gutter Guards

Gutter guards, chosen for your trees.

Screens and covers matched to what actually falls on your roof in Chesapeake and Hampton Roads, fitted without compromising the roofing beneath.

How we approach it

Guards are chosen against your trees

There is no best gutter guard. There is the one suited to what actually falls on your roof, and under Hampton Roads pines and oaks that is a genuinely different answer house to house.

What is filling them

Broad oak leaves, pine needles, or shingle grit each defeat a different guard. The debris decides the product, so we look in the gutter first.

02

Mesh, cover, or insert

Fine micro-mesh stops needles and costs most. Perforated covers handle leaves and not needles. Foam inserts are cheapest and clog soonest.

Fitted to the gutter you have

Guards work with a sound, correctly pitched gutter. Fitting them over a sagging one just makes the existing problem harder to reach.

Less climbing, not none

A good guard turns an annual clean-out into an occasional rinse. Anyone promising you will never touch it again is overselling.

How we choose

The right guard is a local question

What falls on a roof in Hampton Roads decides which guard is worth fitting, and which one simply clogs differently.

Matched to your trees

Pine needles, oak leaves, and shingle grit are different problems. The right screen for one is the wrong screen for another, so the assessment starts overhead.

Rain volume matters too

A guard that sheds leaves but cannot take a summer downpour has traded one failure for another. Guards are chosen against the water the roof delivers, not only the debris.

Fitted without harming the roof

Some systems fasten under the shingles. We install so the roofing beneath is respected, which is simpler when one team is responsible for both.

The honest limitation

Guards make gutter cleaning occasional rather than frequent. They do not make it disappear, and we would rather say so now than after installation.

First things first

Guards cannot fix failing gutters

A guard over a sagging, badly pitched, or split run only hides the problem. If the guttering underneath needs replacing, we will tell you that before selling you anything to put on top of it.

Good to know

Gutter guards, answered

Are gutter guards worth it?
Under Hampton Roads trees, usually. They reduce how often gutters need clearing and keep debris from blocking a downspout in the middle of a storm. What they do not do is make a gutter maintenance-free, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling.
What kinds of gutter guards are there?
Broadly: mesh and micro-mesh screens, surface-tension covers, and foam or brush inserts. They differ in what they keep out, how they handle heavy rain, and how long they last. We match the type to the trees over your roof and the volume the gutter has to carry.
Will guards stop me having to clean the gutters?
No, and that is the honest answer. Fine grit and shingle granules still accumulate, and guards themselves need occasional clearing. They change gutter cleaning from a frequent chore to an occasional one.
Can guards be added to existing gutters?
Often, yes, provided the gutters are sound, correctly pitched, and properly secured. If the guttering underneath is failing, guards would only hide the problem, so we assess that first.
Do gutter guards affect the roof warranty?
Some systems fasten under the shingles, which can matter. We install in a way that respects the roofing beneath, which is simpler when the same team is responsible for both.
