Traditional Sunrooms

The traditional sunroom, done properly.

A custom, site-built sunroom for Chesapeake and Hampton Roads homes. Designed as original architecture and built for every month of the year.

How we approach it

Matched to the house, then built

A site-built room answers to the architecture it joins. The drawing work that makes that happen comes before any foundation is poured.

01

Read the house first

Window rhythm, brick coursing, roof pitch, trim profiles. A site-built room has to answer to all of them, so we measure and photograph the existing elevation before a single line is drawn.

02

Drawn to match, not to fit

Elevations, trim profiles, and material samples worked out together. Matching an existing house is a drawing problem before it is a building problem, and it is where a room either earns its place or looks bolted on.

Real construction

A poured foundation, framed and insulated walls, and rafters tied into the existing roof. Built the way the rest of the house was built, because it becomes part of the rest of the house.

It should look original

Wainscot below the glass, a plank ceiling above it, proportions carried through from the rooms it adjoins. The test is whether a visitor can tell it was added.

Site-built

Constructed, not attached

A traditional sunroom is real construction: the most seamless, most permanent way to add a room made of light, with total freedom over size, shape, glass, and finish.

A real room, built on site

Foundation, framed walls, insulated glass, and a roof tied into the house, constructed like the rest of your home, because it is part of your home.

Four seasons by design

Insulation, high-performance glazing, and heating and cooling are designed in from the first drawing, so the room is comfortable in January and July alike.

Architecture, continued

Rooflines, proportions, trim, and materials continue the house's own language. The finished room reads as though it was always there.

One team, drawing to walkthrough

Design, engineering, permitting, and construction under one contract. The design-build method applied to the brightest room in the house.

Good to know

Traditional sunrooms, answered

What makes a sunroom 'traditional'?
It is a site-built room with a real foundation, framed walls, insulated glass, and a roof tied into the house, designed from scratch for your home. It is the most seamless, most permanent way to add a room made of light.
Is a traditional sunroom a four-season room?
It can be, and usually is: insulation, high-performance glass, and heating and cooling designed in from the first drawing make it a room for every month of the year.
How is this different from a Sunspace system?
A traditional sunroom is custom construction: maximum integration and design freedom, at a larger investment. Sunspace rooms are engineered systems that install faster at a friendlier price. We offer both, and we will tell you honestly which serves your home better.
Does a sunroom add value?
A well-built sunroom adds usable square footage and daylight, two things buyers and appraisers both notice. What we will not do is quote you an inflated return figure; we would rather show you rooms that speak for themselves.
